Stress Reduction Techniques

What are some of the stress reduction techniques I use?

  • Taking a few deep cleansing breathes
  • Standing up and stretching without straining
  • Straighten my spine and my posture
  • Going for a walk
  • Listening to relaxing music
  • Slowing down my life and enjoying each moment

Taking a few deep cleansing breathes

I like to say I breathe in the goodness of the world when inhaling. On the exhale I release all my negative energy. Once I feel I’ve released all my negative energy I switch that to I release peace into the world. If you’d prefer breathe in to a count of 6-8 and exhaling to a count of 6-8. This will slow down your breathing and your heart rate. You should feel more relaxed after doing this a few times.

Stand up and stretch without straining

If not possible to stand just stretch in your chair:

Straighten your spine and your posture

Straightening your spine allows your lungs to expand. This allows you to breathe deeper. Getting more oxygen into your body.

Go for a walk

No matter the pace walking will also release some of the excess energy.

Listen to relaxing music

Check out the Classical music information at www.my-classical-notes.com

It’s not the “elevator” music I believed it to be. He does a really good job explaining what it is. Also, which composers to listen to. Listening to Classical Music is very relaxing and inspiring.

Slowing down your life and enjoy each moment.

One of the most effective stress reduction techniques I know of is to slow down your life and enjoy each moment. I know that is a lot easier said than done. The fact is the more we juggle the more stressful our lives become.

Words I watch out for

  • I have to
  • I must
  • I need to
  • I should

These are a clear indication that I am doing something that is adding stress to my life. I then ask myself if I really need to be doing that task? I remind myself that in order to help others I have to be healthy. This helps to emphasize that if I am giving up valuable time I should either enjoy it or feel it is a true priority in my life. Not just uncomfortable to say no.

If you can’t eliminate the task try replacing the wording with:

  • I want to
  • I can
  • I am glad to be able to
  • I’m excited to
  • I am willing to

Changing your perception of the upcoming task(s) will usually release some of the stress being generated.

Gratitude Journal and “Be” by Mary Peters

A couple that I use are:

Along with breathing, just to sit & “be” without doing anything.

Also, start a “gratitude journal”; record all that you are grateful for.

So many times, we are dissatisfied with the way things are. Find at least one thing you are grateful for. I bet there will be more items you are grateful for that soon come to mind.

    Relaxation Tips to Rid
    Your Body of Stress

Relaxation Tips to Rid Your Body of Stress

Even when you are handling stress well, you need a breather. Time to renew and recharge ensures that you continue to manage stress in a healthy way. Here are some tips to help you take advantage of time to relax and release.

Most of us want to simply unwind after a hard day at work or a long day of handling stressful situations. Stress can come from many sources – deciding which bills to pay when money is short, medical issues, family demands – not just your job. You are working to meet these stressors head on but it can take a lot of wind out of your sails when you’re done.

    Relaxation Techniques

The thing about relaxation is that we don’t get nearly enough of it. An ideal relaxing situation is one in which you don’t think about the stressor at any time. You are not sitting down in an easy chair to mull over the events of the day. You are instead focusing on something more pleasant to recharge your batteries for future stress management.

    1. Go for a massage – There is nothing more relaxing then letting someone else do all the work for a change to make you happy. All you have to do is lie there, listen to soft music and let the tension in your body melt away.

    2. Take an uninterrupted hot bath – This is not the time for your spouse to sneak in for a romantic rendezvous. Dim the lights and light candles. Aromatherapy candles in relaxing scents like chamomile and lavender will also lighten the mood. Enjoy the warm water and wafting smells. You can even have a CD of earth sounds playing in the background (far away from the tub).

    3. Try yoga – Yoga has been practiced for centuries as a way of enhancing the mind-body connection. By concentrating on your breathing and your body movements, you can learn to control your body responses. It takes practice to get good, but even that frees your mind and helps you to relax.

    4. Watch a funny movie – Have you ever heard that laughter is the best medicine? Well, laughter releases endorphins in your body. Your dark mood lifts and you feel better – better able to cope with life and whatever was on your mind previously.

All of these things are great but they won’t help if you don’t set aside time to do them. Make a commitment right now to carve out time each day to relax. Pen it in just like you do everything else. Leave more time than you need in case one day you need all of that time to restore balance to your body.

Find a relaxation technique that pleases you and start there. You can add others for variety. Once you get started, you’ll look forward to those times with joy.

    Seeking God Problem Ownership

    by D. Freeman

Seeking God as in “Be still and know I am God”. Knowing God is in control and I don’t have to make all decisions alone releases stress.

It is problem ownership, If anyone can change your decision, it was not your problem in the first place.

Therefore, releasing it to God with the understanding that only He can be all things to all people; you simply cannot!

    Stress Of The Scale

    by Sandy Conard
    (Green Bay, WI)

My story about the stress of the scale

I’m reading a book by Kat James called:

The truth about beauty – unlocking the secrets to profound beauty.

In it she suggests tossing out our scales. I kind of laughed at the idea – I usually weigh myself daily.

I asked a close friend to “store” my scale for me.
Since then it is amazing how much freer I feel. I didn’t realize how the stress of the scale was affecting me.

I’m going to focus just on getting healthy and not worry about what the scale says. I’ll keep you posted on how this is working on this page. Currently I fit into a size 12 jeans.

Have a great stress free day!!

Mine is starting out less stressful.
